About Us
Fr Jules Chevalier, founder of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) and the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (FDNSC), envisioned a third order of lay men and women who would take the Spirituality of the Heart into their homes and workplaces.
His vision continues to be fulfilled on a global scale with representatives of the Chevalier family both lay and ordained working in parishes, education, accompanying the sick and the marginalised, and working for justice and peace. Our St Albans group has regular contact with Chevalier family members in Europe, Australia, Brazil and the USA.
The motto ‘May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be everywhere loved’ goes beyond placing statues of the Sacred Heart in churches, First Friday devotions and novenas, important as they are. It means believing that Christ’s love for His people is empowering, healing, all-embracing, liberating and challenging.
In practical terms, this means that the we:
- Are committed to spreading the Gospel of Christ.
- Respond to the needs of all, particularly those who are poor, isolated or
marginalised. - Promote human development and compassion, build and model
relationships in the light of Catholic social teachings. - Encourage, foster and sustain lay leadership in the Church and involvement
in their missions and spirituality.
